Here,  finally,   is the truth behind the MTV show,  FEAR.  Specifically,  the episode concerning St. Agnus Hospital for the Criminally Insane.

In October, 2000,  Shasta Supernatural Investigators was the first Investigative team to break the secret of the St. Agnus Hospital mystery which was aired on MTV's television program, "FEAR".  Many thought the name of the hospital was the actual name,  even though the episode in question specifically stated that they name of the area had been changed.   This, of course,  caused many of you to contact us to find the truth behind the misinformation.

WE HAVE DONE THAT !

We chose to delay the publicizing of this information due to concerns about Ghost Hunters and Skeptics, not to mention vandals who would destroy the area now revealed.  However,  upon further discussion,  we found that most of our readers are truely interested in Paranormal Investigations,  and not just some hobby which creates carelessness and destruction of property.    If you choose to investigate this case,  please be sure to contact the necessary authorities for permission.  The local community is making attempts to finance a refurbishing of the building for use to the public.  Most likely, they will be less willing to cooperate with non-professional entities.

Here are the facts concerning St. Agnus Hospital for the Criminally Insane.

St Agnus Hospital for the Criminally Insane is,  in reality,  Fairfield State Hospital located near Newtown, Connecticut.   Following are some of the facts which back our findings.

1.  On MTV's website,  (the FEAR page) ,   we can see an overview diagram of the layout of the areas concerned in the "Investigation", as explored by the performers.   When compared to the overview layout of Fairfield State Hospital, seen to the right,   we can see that the buildings are identical to St. Agnus.  The buildings shown on the FEAR page are found in the heart of those found on the Fairfield  State Hospital diagram.                                                                                                                                                                        Although the buildings are seen at an angle, they are represented here from left middle to right middle within the red circle.  Schuster Hall, Laurence House,  Russel Hall,  and Compton Hall.  The Welch Laboratory is attached to Russel Hall but is too small to be seen here.

2.   St. Agnus was said to be founded sometime in the early 1930s.  Fairfield State Hospital was founded in 1933.

3.   St Agnus was closed in 1972.  The only hospital opened in the 1930s, that was closed in 1972 was Fairfield State Hospital.

4.   For those in the know,  if you want Paranormal verification in the state of Connecticut,  the persons to see are Ed and Lorraine Warren, Demonologists.  Their usual habit is to help Investigators in finding haunts within the state of Connecticut,  usually traveling outside the state only in cases of violent hauntings.  This is why they were the contact psychics in this episode of "FEAR".

5.  Dr. Welch, for whom the surgical section was named,  was not the cruel doctor as was intimated on the television show,  "FEAR".   Indeed,  his actions are considered barbaric in todays scientific medical world,  but in his day,  he was a well respected pioneer of mental health cures.  It was never his intentions to cause brutality upon patients, but rather to help them remain calm and cope with their misunderstood illness.  It is his lab that is attached to Russel Hall.   Dr. Welch had gone on to teach many  Doctors and Students about cures for the mentally disturbed throughout New England.

6.   So you may be wondering how television producers got wind of such a haunted place.  Did they have to contact many different Paranormal Investigators and Psychics ?  No.  They knew about Fairfield State Hospital long before this episode came to be.  This is the location for much of the film entitled , "SLEEPERS",  starring Kevin Bacon, Brad Pitt,  and Robert De niro.

Fairfield State Hospital is indeed a haunted place.  The representations and stories concerning the haunts within the buildings are reported to be true and were,  for the most part,  not misrepresented in the show, "FEAR".

We encourage you not to investigate or bother the townspeople of Newtown.  Only the most professional and serious Investigators should attempt such an Investigation.  Never go it alone.  Obey all the restrictions and allowances permitted you.  Follow the prescribed, correct path in Paranormal Investigations.  Presume nothing.  Expect anything.  And,  have a little fun with your work.

If you have questions concerning how to go about conducting an investigation,  we are willing and able to help in any way we can.  Please feel free to EMAIL us with any questions or comments you may have.  And we invite you to visit our new web pages concerning How To Conduct a Ghost Hunt or Paranormal Investigation.
